European Perspectives and Global Challenges
About the Seminar
The seminar aims to bring together researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to discuss how gender perspectives can be effectively integrated into agricultural policies and rural development strategies.
In Europe, fewer than 30% of farms are managed by women, while gender disparities remain even wider in many low- and middle-income countries.
Gender equality in agriculture is widely recognized as a key priority by international organizations such as FAO, IFAD, UN Women, and the OECD. Evidence suggests that closing gender gaps in access to productive resources and opportunities could significantly enhance agricultural productivity and contribute to global food security.
According to FAO estimates, if women had the same access to productive resources as men, agricultural productivity could increase substantially, contributing to the achievement of several Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
This EAAE seminar fosters dialogue, knowledge exchange, and policy recommendations for more inclusive and sustainable agricultural systems.
Castello Angioino-Aragonese
A medieval fortress rising above the Tyrrhenian Sea, the Angevin-Aragonese Castle of Gaeta has stood as a symbol of power and culture since the 6th century. Located on a dramatic promontory between Rome and Naples, it offers breathtaking views over the Gulf of Gaeta and provides an inspiring setting for our academic exchange.
